Finding "Can Dos" at Every Level
Beginning his career as a school psychologist in the 1970s, Albert H. Brigance noticed that assessment tools tended to emphasize what students didn’t know and couldn’t do. But when it came to his students, Al loved sharing good news, and he wanted to change the conversation. Al envisioned assessments with a different emphasis—in-depth skill sequences that would reveal what students do know and can do, support educators in determining what’s next for each student, and provide results that could be easily shared with families.
From Al’s vision grew our first BRIGANCE product, the Inventory of Basic Skills, and from there, BRIGANCE evolved into an industry-leading publisher of screeners, assessment tools, and instructional materials for early childhood and special education professionals.
